Boulard has been experimenting with a host of different cask types to mature its Calvados in, and the team has picked an incredibly intriguing one here – Mizunara oak from Japan!
This release uses a medley of cask types- Port, Oloroso Sherry and Bourbon; which imparts flavours of light grassy notes balanced with juicy summer berries. This edition is one of 9,000 bottles released globally and is bottled at 46% ABV.
Nose – Dried fruits, buttery caramel and vanilla on the nose. Freshly baked banana bread with ripe pineapple and dry spice.
Palate – Baked apple with sponge cake sweetness and a peppery warmth on the finish.
A rather interesting expression from Boulard, made with Calvados that has been initially aged in French oak casks before enjoying a second maturation in casks used for bourbon and rye!
