history in the former French Colonies such as Haiti and Martinique.
These rums are also referred to as Rhum and are not made from molasses,
but from sugar cane juice. There are strict French guidelines for these
rums and they are distilled using column distillation.
The Rhums that meet the strict requirements are called Rhum Agricole's.
The rums that do not meet these guidelines are called Rhum Industriel. The French style rums are more fruity in the aromas and have a drier mouthfeel.
