Blended malt is samengesteld uit malt whiskies uit verschillende distilleerderijen. Deze categorie werd vroeger ook "pure malt of "vatted malt" genoemd. De bekendste voorbeelden hiervan zijn Johnnie Walker Green Label en Nikka Black Label.The Scotch Whisky Association heeft in februari 2005 nieuwe richtlijnen aan haar leden uitgegeven. Daarin staat dat vatted of pure malts in het vervolg allemaal blended malts moeten worden genoemd.
