Established in 1824 from buildings once used as a meal-mill by the monks at the nearby Pluscarden Priory, Miltonduff Distillery produces a fragrant, flowery malt with hints of peat and vanilla. It is said that the Black Burn from which the distillery draws its water, was blessed by a saintly abbot in the 15th century, and that the stone upon which he knelt was built in to the distillery walls. Miltonduff Distillery was founded in 1824. The distillery was extensively modernised in the 1930s and again in the 1970s. Miltonduff whisky is a very important part of the Ballantine blend. As well as a distillery the site is also home to laboratories, engineering support and centralised warehousing for Allied distilleries. Miltonduff also produced Mosstowie Single Malt between 1964 and 1981.
